Overview
QR is Australias premier passenger railway operator. With over 125 years experience QR can deliver some of the most amazing and memorable rail journeys in the world. Diverse in the experience they offer tourists, QR's scenic rail services in North Queensland provide the ultimate means of travelling through particularly remote and unique natural landscapes. These include the lush, world heritage listed rainforest and cascading waterfalls of the Barron Gorge and the unexplored, rustic terrains of Queensland's Gulf country.
QR has been a leading commercial enterprise for North Queensland since the late 1800's linking vital southern centres with supplies and people.
The Gulflander
Fondly referred to as the old tin hare, the Gulflander is an award-winning service, which operates between Normanton and Croydon.
Travellers can experience first hand the diverse landscapes and ancient geological formations of the gulf country where cattle roam on large stations and gold was once the main source of income for many locals.
A half-day journey, The Gulflander often stops for an impromptu morning tea supplied by the locals and for photo opportunities at Norman River Bridge.
